Using advanced KeraShape Technology, along with Biomimetic Silk and Shea Oil, the treatment helps create new keratin bonds within the hair. This strengthens the hair from the inside, smooths the outer layer, and reduces frizz—making daily styling faster and easier.

Unlike harsh chemical straightening, Kerasilk is gentle and customisable, improving your hair’s texture and health without removing natural volume or movement. It’s a safe and versatile option for those dealing with frizz, dryness, or hard-to-manage hair.

Both Keratin Treatments and Japanese Straightening are popular options for achieving smoother, more manageable hair, but they differ significantly in technique, results, and suitability depending on hair type and condition.

Keratin Treatment

A semi-permanent smoothing treatment that coats the hair with keratin and silk proteins to reduce frizz and enhance shine without altering the hair’s internal structure.

Pros:

  • Semi-permanent Smoothing

Reduces frizz and leaves hair soft, shiny, and manageable while maintaining natural shape and movement.
  • Suitable for Bleached and Chemically Treated Hair

Free from harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde and does not require neutralisation, allowing it to be used on highly compromised hair.
  • Less Damaging

Generally less harsh on hair compared to Japanese straightening, as it does not alter the internal structure of the hair.
  • Styling Versatility

Hair remains smoother and more manageable, but you can still style it with waves or curls if desired.
  • PETA-certified

Committed to cruelty-free and vegan beauty.

Cons:

  • Shorter-lasting Result

Results last 3-5 months. and needs more frequent reapplication.
  • Not a Straightening

Does not fully remove strong curls and less effective for very coarse or tight curls if full straightness is desired.
  • Styling at Home

Requires some heat styling (blow-dry/flat iron) to maintain the finish at home.

Ideal For:

Clients with frizz, dryness, or dullness from colouring or heat styling

Who want to keep some natural texture while reducing bulkook and are comfortable with styling at home

Who need a gentle, safe option for compromised hair

Japanese Straightening

A long-lasting chemical straightening method that permanently transforms curly, wavy, or frizzy hair into sleek, straight strands by restructuring the internal bonds of the hair.

Pros:

  • Permanently Straightens Hair

Once treated, the hair remains pin-straight until it grows out. No daily straightening needed.
  • Sleek, Smooth Finish

Delivers a high-shine, frizz-free, smooth result, especially popular among those with coarse or curly hair.
  • Humidity Resistant

Keeps hair smooth and manageable even in damp weather, less puffiness or frizz.
  • Long-Lasting

Effects last 3–12 months, depending on hair type and regrowth speed. Only the roots typically need retouching.

Cons:

  • Risk of Damaging

Not suitable for bleached, highlighted, or highly compromised hair.
The alkaline agents used in the process cause hair to swell, which is the primary source of structural damage, especially in already weakened hair.
  • Stiffness & Loss of Volume

Can make hair appear flat or stiff, especially if not layered well. Natural movement may be reduced.
  • Aftercare

Hair must not be tied, washed, or tucked behind ears for 48 hours post-treatment to avoid creases.

Ideal For:

Clients with coarse, thick, wavy, or frizzy hair seeking long-term straightness

Who want low-maintenance straight hair and are comfortable with a flat, sleek look

Who do not bleach or colour their hair often, or whose hair is in good health

Which One Should You Choose?

✔️ Choose a Keratin Treatment if you want to reduce frizz and improve manageability while maintaining natural texture, especially if your hair is bleached, coloured, or more fragile.

✔️ Choose Japanese Straightening if you want sleek, straight hair with long-lasting results and your hair is healthy enough for chemical processing.

What is the process involved in a Kerasilk Treatment?

The Kerasilk Treatment process involves several steps, typically requires up to 3 hours, depending on hair length, thickness, and customisation.
Here's a general overview of the process:

  1. Consultation

Your stylist will assess your hair type, condition, and goals to determine the right treatment strength and formulation. This ensures the result is tailored to your desired level of smoothness while protecting your hair’s integrity.

  2. Preparation and Cleansing

Hair is washed thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup and open the cuticle. This helps the smoothing ingredients penetrate more effectively.

  3. Application

The custom Kerasilk formula, infused with KeraShape TechnologyBiomimetic Silk, and Shea Oil, is evenly applied throughout the hair. It works by forming new keratin bonds inside the hair fibre to smooth and strengthen from within.

  4. Processing Time

The treatment is left on the hair for 15–30 minutes, depending on hair texture and the chosen level of control.

  5. Blow-Dry and Heat Activation

Hair is blow-dried and then flat-ironed in sections. The heat activates the treatment, sealing in the smoothing ingredients and locking the hair cuticle for long-lasting results.

  6. Rinse and Finish

A finishing serum or mask will be applied to enhance shine and seal moisture. Hair is then styled as desired.

Aftercare tips for Japanese Straightening / How to take care

  1. Use Sulphate-Free Hair Products

Choose a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, preferably from the Kerasilk range, to avoid stripping away the treatment.

  2. Avoid Clarifying Shampoos

Do not use clarifying or detox shampoos, as these can remove the treatment prematurely.

  3. Avoid toning

Although it is generally safe to colour your hair after a Kerasilk treatment, we do not recommend toning.
Kerasilk is a rich, amino acid–based treatment, and the acidity of toners can make the hair too acidic, potentially resulting in increased frizz.

  4. Avoid Salt and Chlorine

Chlorinated pools and saltwater can weaken or shorten the life of the treatment. Use a swim cap or rinse hair immediately after swimming.

  5. Avoid Over-Frequent Touch-Ups

While we recommend scheduling a refresh treatment every 4-6 months, repeating the treatment within 3 months is not advised. Doing so may increase the acidity of your hair, potentially leading to dryness and frizz.

Kerasilk Treatment Q&A

How long does Kerasilk Treatment last?

With proper care, the results typically last 3 to 5 months. Using sulphate-free products and limiting exposure to saltwater and harsh chemicals will help maintain the smoothness and shine for longer.

Is Kerasilk Treatment suitable for all hair types?

Yes, Kerasilk is suitable for most hair types, including frizzy, wavy, curly, colour-treated, and chemically processed hair. It is especially beneficial for clients looking to reduce frizz and improve manageability without losing natural movement. However, a consultation is recommended for very curly or coarse hair.

How should I care for my hair after Kerasilk Treatment?

Use sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner (ideally Kerasilk products), avoid clarifying shampoos, saltwater, and chlorine, blow-dry and flat iron after washing to maintain smoothness, use heat protection when styling, and schedule refresh treatments every 4-6 months.

Can I colour my hair after Kerasilk Treatment?

Yes, you can colour your hair after the treatment. However, it's usually best to colour before the Kerasilk service to ensure the smoothing effects are not weakened by hair dye. Toning should be avoided, as its acidity can make the hair too acidic, potentially resulting in increased frizz.

What are the potential risks of Kerasilk Treatment?

Kerasilk is formaldehyde-free, vegan, and gentle, making it safer than traditional straightening systems. However, as with any hair treatment, there is a small risk of irritation or dryness in rare cases. Always inform your stylist of any scalp sensitivities or previous hair treatments during consultation.

Can I wash my hair after getting a Kerasilk Treatment?

It's generally recommended to wait at least 48 hours after getting a Kerasilk Treatment before washing your hair.
This allows your hair to set properly and ensures that the treatment has enough time to work effectively.

Can I swim or expose my hair to water after getting a Kerasilk Treatment?

Yes, but be cautious. Exposure to saltwater and chlorinated pools can shorten the life of the treatment. If you plan to swim, wear a swim cap and rinse your hair immediately afterwards to protect the results.
